My Gear

This is my gear.

Oh come on, what I meant was my current gear for my photographing. Here is it, my Sony Cybershot DSC-W110.

This is not a review on W110 but my personal introduction about my personal camera.

DSC-W110 is a pretty cool black simple consumer camera from SONY.

The famous Cybershot is a line of digital camera made by Sony. The Cybershot is well known for its proprietary lithium ion battery pack, the trademark Carl Zeiss lenses and it's awesome aesthetics design. All Cybershot models have a DSC prefix in their names, which is an acronym for "Digital Still Camera".

Here are some of the k
ey features of my DSC-W110:

7.2 Mega pixels.

Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar
, from the famous German
manufacturer of optical systems, industrial measurements and medical devices founded in 1846.

4x Optical zoom. Not very useful except you want to shoot some birds in the sky BLURRY.

2.5'' lcd monitor, which is big enough for photos viewing after shots.

Very High Sensitivity of ISO 3200
. As you can see there are 2 photos taken in weak fluorescent light. ISO of 3200 results sharp but NOISY image.

Face Detection. It recognizes faces in picture, automatically adjusting the focus, exposure, white balance, and flash setting in order to obtain natural portrait. This is quite a useful function during portrait shooting. But, to ensure that this function work perfectly please shoot at something with FACE. Otherwise, it won't work. Here's an example.

Never shoot at FACELESS VOID.

Smile Shutter. It
automatically throws the shutter (even when in standby) when your subject smiles. The key point is just make sure your subject is smiling. Here's a very good example.

Now you know how powerful the President of USA is. His simple facial expression can even change the decision of a camera.

The quality of photos from this camera is average. They are okay and acceptable under normal condition. With user friendly interface and functions, W110 is really a nice camera for consumer who doesn't care much on the photo quality. The data transferring is also pretty easy with MemoryStickProDuo or simply a USB cable.

However, for me, it's still not a good camera.

First of all, the color tone of the photo is a little bit soft. I prefer a higher contrast photo.

Even the tasty chicken wings become so pale to be eaten. :-S

And, there will be blueish indoor photo under fluorescent light under normal (auto)
white balance setting. Another white balance setting such as "natural
fluorescent light 2" may produce better images but for me they are still SUX.

Seeing this photo, you may think that my room's wall is painted in blue color. No, it's white.

Poor outdoor photo, especially under strong sunlight.

However, these all can be forgiven as it's just a compact consumer camera. It's for simple and normal use for any consumer from any level. Actually, it still catch my eye of it's light weight and also it's pretty simple and nice appearance design.

Especially with the FREAKING tripod.

P.S.: Thanks Ichibansheng for assisting me in most of the product shootings of my W110. Thanks!

Confusing Toilet Board

Recently I've used a public toilet during a visit to a local Chinese temple.

The toilet is normal, clean, and usable but I found that the "INSTRUCTION" board pasted on the toilet door is quite confusing in Mandarin language.

This is the statement:

Ignoring the English version of the statement, I have 2 conclusions about it:

1. You are prohibited to do BIG BUSINESS here. OR

2. You no need to flush at all after doing your BIG BUSINESS.

What do you think?

Mighty Morphin M.U. Rangers!

"United's new home kit for the 2009/10 campaign has been officially unveiled and you can now see it in all its glory in our special gallery on ManUtd.com"

Ya, the release of MU's new home kit has been officially announced by their official website days ago. The red kit celebrates 100 years of Old Trafford with a large chevron across the chest, reflecting the design of the shirts worn by United when the stadium first opened during the 1909/10 season. Sounds good ah. Let's see how's the new designed jerseys.

We can see this picture in the website. Park, Rooney, and Ferdinand are the main models for the new jersey. Wow, there's a huge V on each of their chest! LOL. Actually the tribute kit is based upon a 100-year-old design supplied by one of the club's own players, Billy Meredith, before the 1909 FA Cup Final.

United's kit makers Nike have been asked to rework Meredith's shirt - using high-tech materials rather than heavyweight cotton and with a white sash on a red shirt instead of 1909's red-on-white. There're a lot of information about the history of MU jerseys at www.prideofmanchester.com/sport/mufc-kits.htm , if u are interested to see what they wear previously. For me the recent jerseys of MU are quite nice looking and sporty. Well done, men.

Here is the story in 1909. Meredith, a former Welsh coal miner, earned £4 a week at United, then three times a miner's wage but just £298 a week in today's money. As a sideline he ran a sports shop and became the club's kit supplier. For the Wembley final with Bristol City, both sides had to change from their usual red shirts. Meredith quickly arranged for a set of white lace-up shirts with a red V to be made, and United went on to win 1-0.

Haha. What a lucky jersey huh. Let's take a closer look on it.

Ya, there's a huge V above the AIG logo, and there's black strip around the collar area. Ooops. The huge V seems so familiar with something that I just can't remember it.

Here's the shorts. Nothing's special and it's pretty simple and nice looking.

Why the huge V is so familiar to me? Yes. Maybe you are thinking the same too. Our famous childhood heroes!

Ya, It's the POWER RANGERS! Or specifically, the POWER RANGERS MYSTIC FORCE! Or more specifically, the RED RANGER. I can't imagine seeing Rio Ferdinand's face when the red ranger takes off his helmet.

Maybe, this poster may suit them if they want to make a power ranger series.

The Mighty Morphin MU Rangers!
